An Open Letter to the Elevation Community

For 10 years, it has been a privilege to serve the Central Florida community. Our company, Elevation, was born in Orlando. For many years, we were headquartered in a historic senior tower, The Hillcrest Hampton House, which has served generations of Central Floridians.  Inside that property is a collection of iconic photos of “The City Beautiful” dating back to the 1950’s.

Our company now provides safe, clean and affordable housing all across the southeast, but it was this city that gave us our start.  It gave us the support we needed to start our mission. It gave us our first investors.  It gave us our first properties where we learned our craft.

Today, the city that we love is hurting.  Unthinkable tragedy has struck.  The loss of life is unfathomable.  For years, we read about “other” places, “other” neighborhoods, “other” communities.  But today, the world is reading about our community.  The Pope is praying for our community.  The President is talking about our community.  It is surreal.  It is strange. And it is the new reality in Orlando.

If you are a resident living in, or staff working in one of our communities, our hearts are with you today.  If you have directly experienced loss from this tragedy, we are asking that you let us know how we can help your family.  Please reach out to your General Manager today so that we may better know how to serve you.  We will be in contact.

If you are an investor or a partner in business or philanthropy, and you have directly experienced loss from this tragedy, we are asking you to reach out to Scott Lee at 407-215-1350 so that we may better know how to serve you.

Our prayers today are for the victims and their families.  May they be comforted.

Our prayers today are for our elected officials and law enforcement.  May they be strengthened.

Our prayers today are for the LGBT community.  It is clear that our gay friends are particularly hurting today and we stand in solidarity with them, praying for a world without fear or hate.

As my sister in law Tammy King said, “We have to keep living and loving one another.  Orlando will become stronger through this horrific tragedy.  This evil cannot take down The City Beautiful.”

So for all of us at Elevation, we say #OrlandoStrong!
